Highlights
Experience a wonderful contrast between peaceful mountain wilderness and the vibrant atmosphere of Ella. The route passes through misty forest, visits the famous Ella Rock viewpoint and finishes beside the historic Up Country Railway Line.

The route
The hike begins at Allimale Bo Tree in Makulella and enters the mist-covered Kinigama Forest Reserve. Towering eucalyptus trees, cool mountain air and birdsong create a tranquil opening to the stage.
The trail emerges near Ella Rock, where sweeping views extend across the Ella Gap, Little Adam's Peak and the surrounding mountains. This is the most energetic and rewarding section of the walk.
The final stretch follows the historic Up Country Railway Line towards Ella, creating a memorable transition from quiet forest and mountain scenery to the lively cafes and guesthouses of the hill town.
