Highlights
One of the shortest and most popular stages of The Pekoe Trail, this easy hike begins in vibrant Ella and finishes at historic Demodara. It combines forest paths, village life and two of Sri Lanka's best-known railway landmarks.

The route
The walk begins at Ella Railway Station and passes through Ella Forest Reserve to the iconic Nine Arches Bridge, also known as the Bridge in the Sky. Several viewpoints reveal this colonial-era landmark from different perspectives.
Beyond the bridge, the route climbs briefly through a village before continuing through the scenic Demodara Tea Estate. Peaceful tea paths and friendly local communities create a relaxed hill-country experience.
The stage concludes at Demodara Railway Station, home to the remarkable Demodara Loop, where the railway line spirals beneath itself before emerging from a tunnel.
